Hubballi Flyover Completion Delayed; PWD Minister Jarkiholi Announces New Deadline
Hubballi: Residents grappling with the inconvenience caused by the ongoing flyover construction in the city must now brace themselves for an additional 22 months of wait, as the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, Satish Jarkiholi, has declared that the flyover project is slated for completion by December 2025.
Responding to a starred question posed by Hubballi Central MLA Mahesh Tenginkai in the Assembly, Minister Jarkiholi assured that the construction work would conclude by December 2025. Tenginkai highlighted that the flyover project, which commenced on June 4, 2021, was originally scheduled for completion by June 24, 2024. However, only 45% of the work has been accomplished thus far, leading to significant challenges for the city’s residents.
Despite the project’s initiation at a cost of Rs 349 crores, Tenginkai expressed concerns about the delay the state government has not prepared a detailed project report for a section from Chennamma Circle to Bengaluru road. Tenginkai emphasized that swift progress in this regard, coupled with other construction aspects, would greatly benefit the local population.
In a supplementary question, Tenginkai sought clarification on why the PWD had not initiated work on 15 out of the total 23 allocated projects for the year 2022-23. He said among the allotted projects, two are at the tender stage, two are at the estimate stage, and four are awaiting work orders.
Jarkiholi acknowledged the delay in initiating the remaining 15 projects, estimating them to be worth Rs 50 crore. Jarkiholi committed to instruct the executive engineer to convene a meeting to address the pending works and determine the appropriate course of action.
